BKAD

Melolo, Sumba, Indonesia

BKAD originally operated as a micro-finance organisation, providing loans to traditional weavers.

BKAD continue to support weaving groups and operate a small gallery selling locally-made textiles at fair market prices. We started working with BKAD in 2017 to provide training to traditional weavers on business management and value-adding.

We also supported a large school weaving program that has now been adopted and fully funded by the local government and more recently have been working with BKAD on addressing malnutrition and stunting in their area.

We love BKAD’s desire to support communities to develop sustainable, local livelihoods, and we think they’re particularly good at working alongside existing social structures to ensure they’re locally funded once the official program wraps up.
