A prayer for uncertain times

As relevant today as these words when first penned by Yvonne years ago and shared in Issue 4 of the Amos Magazine. As the cost of living skyrocket, wars increase and aid decreases globally, prayer and action for dignity and care for all, is more needed each day. - AB

Loving God, 

just as Jesus’ disciples longed to know what was going to happen and when, 

we often long for the same.  

We prefer certainty to uncertainty 

and we fear change while all the time knowing 

that change is certain and inevitable.

We know that anything can happen in our lives at any time, 

but for some the uncertainty of what might happen next is a daily, hourly concern 

that overwhelms them with anxiety and disconnection.  

Today we pray for all who live in fear and in trepidation, 

anxious and unsure.  

Fill them with your peace and let them rest in the knowledge of your love.

We pray for those in our community who cannot rely on the routine of their lives; 

those who live in insecure housing, unable to pay their bills, not sure if they can provide food for their family. 

If they turn to us for help dear Lord, 

give us a generous spirit to share what we have and be your witness in this world.

We pray for people who live in broken relationships, 

for those living with increasing frailty, illness or grief 

and those who are separated from family or friends by distance or past hurts.  

Heal us dear Lord, 

whether it be physical healing or a healing of our spirit.  

Give us the sure and certain knowledge that you walk beside us in every situation.

We pray for a world, 

not where everything is predictable, 

but where every individual and family 

can live in dignity and in the care of the world community.  

We pray for a world, 

not where everything is perfect, 

but where every person knows they are worthy of your love.

And we pray for a world where we care for each other just as you care for us.

In the name of Jesus we pray,

Amen.
